Consumer Choice and Competition

The WCCC seeks to maintain and expand consumer choice and competition within Wisconsin. Our message to legislators is simple. We ask that they support our efforts to protect Wisconsin citizens and say NO to legislation that eliminates consumer choices.

AT&T/TMobile Merger

The Wisconsin Coalition for Consumer Choice strongly supports this merger because it will immediately increase consumer choices and access to quality broadband and mobile services. We believe that if this merger is passed, thousands of new cell sites will become available, the nation's broadband footprint will be significantly expanded, and most importantly, more than 46 million more customers will gain instant access to 4G LTE technology – many of them right here in Wisconsin.

Raw Milk

In the past the WCCC supported 2009 Assembly Bill 628 and 2009 Senate Bill 434. In April 2011, news came that identical bills have been drafted for state Sen. Glenn Grothman, R-West Bend, and state Rep. Donald Pridemore, R-Hartford, which will, if adopted, make raw milk sales legal in Wisconsin and provide more choices for Wisconsin consumers. As drafted for the two lawmakers, a dairy farmer with a license and grade A permit would be able to register with the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection for on-farm sales of unpasteurized milk and milk products.

Short Term Lending

In May 2011, Republican Representative Evan Wynn, and Republican Senator Glenn Grothman introduced 2011 Assembly Bill 150 and 2011 Senate Bill 99. This legislation limits the interest rates on loans given in advance of a future paycheck to 36-percent. If passed this legislation will eventually eliminate a much needed consumer choice in the short-term lending market.

As other issues arise over the course of the 2011-2012 legislative session we will be updating this page. To see past Legislative Victories click here
